Itinerary of the PGI products
The (PGI, Protected Geographical Indication) IGP products are not much different from DOP ones. They both indicate a strong tie to the environment, but have less geographical restrictions in that not all of the production phases have to be executed in their area of provenance.
The European countries with the highest number of PGI products are Italy and now, followed by France. The most frequently recognized IGP Italian products are fruit and vegetables, then the extra-virgin olive oil, cheese and dairy products, meats (cured and fresh meat).
The IGP Italian products are not only fresh or coming from the agricultural transformations. Indeed, we have different kind of bread, fish products, non-food essences, honey, saffron.
