Itinerary: Ascoli Piceno- Ripe- San Giacomo- Ascoli Piceno. Lenght: 46,9 km; medium difficulty.
This time the route goes up the left slope of the Montagna dei Fiori, that of Ripe, then it continues along the Piceno-Aprutina State Road that leads to the borders of the Marche towards Teramo.
Cycling along, you will get a wonderful sight of the Monti Gemelli (Montagna dei Fiori and Monte Foltrone) until you turn towards Ripe. High on the left you’ll glimpse the fortress of Civitella del Tronto that was once an insurmountable defense bulwark between the Kingdom of Naples and the Papal States.
Pedal steadily uphill on the ridge of a mountain consisting of gorges, waterfalls and chapels of rock carved into grottos where hermits withdrew.
This is a long, difficult route with straight sections of road and frequent bends, but the picturesque view of the Tronto valley alone makes this route worthwhile, and it ends up where it began, in Ascoli Piceno.
